Define the spa-removal boundary before work starts so the deck, access opening, and later repair are not left to assumption. Start by confirming that the tub is drained and that permanent utilities have been disconnected by the appropriate qualified provider.
Show how the tub meets the deck
Photograph the perimeter, trim, access panels, railings, steps, and the space below when it is safely visible. State whether the tub is resting on a slab, framed platform, or another support. Do not enter unsafe or concealed spaces for a photo.
Separate removal from repair
Spa removal does not automatically include rebuilding deck boards, railings, trim, electrical service, plumbing, or the opening left behind. Put the boundary in the estimate and arrange repair work separately when needed.
Plan material staging
A recessed tub may come out in sections. The crew needs room to work, a protected place for removed material, and a clear route to the trailer. Move furniture, grills, planters, and loose objects away from that area.
Questions to ask
Ask what surrounding material is included, what must remain, how debris will be contained, what condition the footprint will be left in, and whether hidden conditions could change the scope. The answers should match the written estimate.
